Let's just say this is a place holder....Gotta write about water ice.
not ital. ice.
Not a snow cone.
Water.
ICe.
Tops the reasons I may never be able to move back to Texas. There wouldn't be Rita's Water Ice. And that would make me sad. Every day.
(See the tears...they are anticipatory tears. Because there is no water ice.)

Where's my TORTILLAS?!?!?!?!
You know how in Texas, there are many aisles of tortillas? You can find the tortillas in the bread section, in the fruit section, and in the Mexican food section. Or, if you are in the 'local' non-chain grocery store---there are usually tables in the front with tortillas.
Yea, so the first time I went to an Acme in Philadelphia. ... I nearly lost it. There were no tortillas to be found. They had "wraps" .... i asked a sales person, "Where are the tortillas." They directed me to the wraps. Finally, I found a tiny section of an obscure aisle with some "mexican like foods." Pace sauce, and pace taco packages. Not the good, local made brands.
Finally, 6 months after moving here....my husband, then boyfriend, took me to the "supremo" grocery in his neighborhood. An ENTIRE aisle of mexican + puerto rican + venezuelan foods. OKAY...not tex mex...but I breathed in that aisle and I felt at home.
Much of the Mexican food is more "southwestern" in variety. I found one place, called Adobe Cafe that sells "tex mex"....but it is of the quality of a place in Texas we would refer to as the "crappy mexican place."
Oh, How I Miss Tex Mex.

Texas2Philly
Philly is SOOOO not Texas.
Texas has so many cool things that you can't find here --- Like Mexican food,
and oil derricks, and kids named Tex, and My Best Friends, and MEXICAN FOOD....
BUT, Philly has great hoagies, awesome accents, rude people, crazy drivers, beautiful murals, my HUSBAND, WINTER and SNOW, and all kinds of other funny things. Guess they wouldn't crack me up, except that I didn't grow up around them.
Instead of driving everyone crazy with all my comments about the two cities....thought I would try blogging about it. We'll see how it goes. Don't have much consistency.....might get bored.
We'll keep each other entertained....okay?
